TOWN HALL MEETING SCHEDULED ON PROPOSED ENDING OF THE LA COURT ADR PROGRAM

Tuesday, January 15, 2013, 6 PM

Proposed changes to the LASC ADR Program expected by June 2013 have created an uproar in the mediation community. Should the changes be implemented, they will affect the entire justice system, and the mediation program in particular.

SCMA has responded to the strong response from the mediation community and taken a leadership position by forming a task force and scheduling a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, January 15, 2013.

JOIN US for an open conversation about the expected changes and discussion of what SCMA can do to address the potential reduction in services and/or closure of the LASC ADR Department. This meeting is a key opportunity for all of us to gather with leaders in our field, to share our views, and hear other perspectives.

All members and the mediation community at large are invited to attend. You need not be an SCMA member to attend and voice your concerns.

Date: Tuesday, January 15, 2013
Time: 6:00 – 9:00 PM
Location: Santa Monica Library, 601 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90401
Cost: Free!

Please R.S.V.P. to Scheherazade (Shazi) Rastegar at srastegar@mac-sg.com.

  1. Sorry I will not be able to attend this meeting.

I see this as an opportunity for SCMA to create its own ADR panel for use in litigated cases. SCMA could create a fee structure for LASC, lawyers and parties to pay SCMA to use the service, and structure a fee for what mediators are paid though this service.

Pro Bono cases would only be offered for cases under $25,000. All other cases would pay mediators an hourly fee relative to the litigation amount.
