The SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MEDIATION ASSOCIATION’S
5TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF PEER MEDIATION:
BRINGING PEACE and CONFLICT RESOLUTION TO SCHOOLS
Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 6pm-8pm
in the Founders Room at the Galen Center,
University of Southern California
Peer Mediation is conflict resolution by youth for youth.
Join us as we celebrate peer mediation programs in Los Angeles. We will hear
first hand about the positive impact this training and practice has on
participating students’ lives- in their schools, at home, and in their
Students from programs all over Los Angeles will tell us about their mediator
training, the ‘cases’ they have mediated, and the positive life skills that they
have experienced from their training. We will learn first hand about the
diminution of violence on campuses and improved school climate among schools
that embrace peer mediation training and practice. Peer Mediation serves as an
active complement to many schools’ Restorative Justice initiatives.
Jason Harper, President of the SCMA, and Alternative Dispute Resolution
Consultant with the Los Angeles County Office of Education, will moderate the
panel. There will also be a presentation by the SCMA Education Foundation,
co-sponsor of the event.
We encourage mediators to attend as well as school administrators, counselors,
teachers, students and their families.
This will be a dynamic celebration of Peer Mediation. We guarantee that you will
come away feeling inspired by our most youthful cohort of practicing mediators.
There is no charge to attend the SCMA 5th Annual Celebration of Peer Mediation,
made possible by a grant from the USC Civic Engagement Galen Center Community
Program. As a grantee of this program and the USC Good Neighbors Program, The
Institute for Nonviolence in Los Angeles (INVLA) provides peer mediation
training and support on five LAUSD “USC Family of Schools” campuses.
