Mediation Awareness Week 2016
Join the SCMA as we celebrate the 12th Annual Mediation Awareness Week, March 28 – April 1, 2016.
Mediation Awareness Week was founded in 2004 by Daniel Ben-Zvi and Wendy Greuel in an effort to raise awareness about the value and importance of mediation in the Los Angeles community.
The SCMA and various ADR organizations, associations, non-profits, private panels, and educational institutions in and around Los Angeles are celebrating Mediation Awareness Week by hosting a variety of events which are listed on our Mediation Awareness Week Calendar below.
“The courts of this country should not be the places where resolution of disputes begins. They should be the places where the disputes end after alternative methods of resolving disputes have been considered and tried.” — Sandra Day O’Connor
The LA City Council issued a proclamation for National Conflict Resolution Day supporting mediation as a resolution process and mentioning the benefit to constituents of having community mediation centers and peer mediation programs. The proclamation was presented at an October Council meeting to Foundation President Maria Simpson, Ph.D.; Sally Patchen and Michelle Mikesell, Foundation Board members; and Wendy Forrester, SCMA Board member. Click here to listen to the very kind words of the Councilmembers and Maria’s response.
You too can help raise awareness about the importance of mediation by posting on social media and including the hashtag #LAMediationAwareness2016.
